Yellow fever is a viral infection which is transmitted by mosquitoes. The vaccination is required in tropical regions in Africa, Central America & South America. Proof of vaccination is required for all travellers coming from countries where yellow fever occurs, including transit through such countries.
The oral inactivated Cholera vaccine, Dukoral, is also effective in preventing Travellers diarrhoea.
A medical check up should be made 6 – 8 weeks prior to your departure date. If taking prescribed medication, you should obtain a letter from your doctor to avoid confiscation or delays at countries borders.
People with chronic health issues (eg Diabetes, Respiratory Disease, and the immuno-compromised should also have a medical check up prior to departure with the necessary documentation regarding medication etc.
